Another Sex Offender Law  

The Kansas legislature enacted a new law and the Governor signed it into law this past month and it went into effect May 1. The new law is designed to prevent persons convicted of sexual battery against a child and child endangerment from obtaining or renewing a teaching license.

Apparently in the past there was a loophole that allowed for a renewal of the teaching license after five years if it could be proven that the perpetrator had achieved rehabilitation.1

Nice Teacher; Serial Molester?  

Thomas Arthur BeltranMr. Beltran has been teaching in the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District for 30 years. He has been married for about thirty-five years, and his adult daughter died of cancer a couple of years ago. She followed in her father’s footsteps and chose teaching as her profession.

For the past twenty years Mr. Beltran has been teaching at Lincoln Middle School in Santa Monica, California; teaching English as a Second Language to seventh-graders.
