Math Teacher Arrested for Sexual Relationship with Student
A popular middle school math teacher was taken into custody this morning at Tomas Rivera Middle School in Perris, CA. He is charged with having a sexual relationship with one of his 13-year-old female students.
The girl’s parents knew about the friendship between their daughter and the teacher and had in the past given him permission to give their daughter rides to school functions. They learned just this week that the friendship had developed into a sexual relationship. They called police yesterday.
An investigation indicated there was sufficient evidence of a sexual relationship between the two which prompted the arrest this morning. According to police, during an interview conducted with the suspect he admitted to the relationship which started in October 2005 when the girl was a student in his class.
Apparently, the teacher would make arrangements to pick the girl up at near her home and then he took her to his home in Murietta for the encounters.
Raymond Fields, 27-year-old math teacher, a popular math teacher, is currently sitting in jail, if the charges against him are proven he has thrown his life away. He has thrown his career away. He is finished.
I will never understand how or why someone can have a sexual relationship with a child. I am just hoping that the victim is not pregnant.
Why would a teacher give rides to a student? Why would the parents allow it? Apparently these parents are unaware of how pedophiles groom their victims and how pedophiles enlist the parents of their victims in aiding their goals.
Shame on you Mr. Fields, shame on you.
Mr. Fields is currently incarcerated according the the Megan’s Law website. Yes, he is listed on that site because he is a convicted sex offender. His life as a popular and well-liked math teacher is over. I would like to think Mr. Fields chose the teaching profession because he liked to teach and not because he would be surrounded by a variety of victims for his choosing.
I don’t generally keep up with the cases on this blog as frequently as I should but someone left a comment today on the original post defending Mr. Fields and blaming the victim and her parents. Her defense prompted me to check and see if anything had come of the charges because the local media has not followed up on the case. I checked the Megan’s Law Sex Offender Registry and there was his not so smiling face. It really is a shame. Look at the smiling face of what I imagine was a newly employed teacher in the photo on the left, compared to the mug shot of a newly convicted sex offender on the right.
Raymond Ricardo Fields, 27, of Murrietta, pleaded guilty in June 2006 to two felony counts of committing a lewd act on a child under the age of 14. He was sentenced two days before his 28th birthday. I can’t find any information about the sentence received. The maximum sentence was 10 years.

Some RSO Do Not Have to Appear on the Registry
According to this site, certain registered sex offenders are not required to appear on the Megan’s Law Registry. They do have to register with local law enforcement agencies but you will never know a registered sex offender who falls into this “other” category lives in your neighborhood or works next to you, or sits next to your child in school.
